Chinese-Style Meatballs in Hoisin Sauce



Ingredients:

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground pork or beef ๐Ÿ–๐Ÿ–
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs ๐Ÿž
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions ๐ŸŒฑ
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced ๐ŸŒฟ
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced ๐Ÿง„
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce ๐Ÿถ
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil ๐Ÿงด
  • 1 large egg ๐Ÿฅš
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch ๐ŸŒพ
  • Salt and pepper to taste ๐Ÿง‚

For the Hoisin Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce ๐Ÿฏ
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce ๐Ÿถ
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar ๐Ÿš
  • 1 tbsp honey ๐Ÿฏ
  • 1 tsp sesame oil ๐Ÿงด
  • 1 tbsp water ๐Ÿ’ง

For Garnish:

  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds ๐Ÿš
  • 2 tbsp chopped green onions ๐ŸŒฑ

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Meatballs:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork (or beef), breadcrumbs, green onions, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, egg, cornstarch, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  • Shape the mixture into 1-inch diameter meatballs and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the meatballs are fully cooked and golden brown.

2. Make the Hoisin Sauce:

  • In a small saucepan, combine the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, sesame oil, and water. Stir well.
  • Simmer the sauce over medium heat for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly. Remove from heat.

3. Coat the Meatballs:

  • Once the meatballs are done baking, transfer them to a large bowl. Pour the prepared hoisin sauce over the meatballs and gently toss to coat them evenly.

4. Serve and Garnish:

  • Arrange the meatballs on a serving platter. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish.

5. Enjoy!
